Build something
you can play.

Hands-on learning at the intersection of fashion, electronic music, and physical computing. Choose a five-day introduction, a ten-day intensive, or a lab tailored to your project and group.

TIER 01EXPLORE

Foundations

5 DAYS

An introduction to fashion, sound, and physical interaction, combining lectures with hands-on making. Designed for makers with little or no experience in sewing, embedded systems, electronics, or sound design.

  • Learn the fundamentals through introductory lectures and guided practical sessions
  • Discover conductive materials, sensors, and their connection to sound
  • Try basic sewing, electronics, and sound design techniques
  • Create small wearable sound pieces or prototypes, rather than a complete garment
  • Workshop materials provided
  • Receive a certificate of completion

TIER 02MAKE

Wearable Instruments

10 DAYS

A longer studio intensive for developing a more complex wearable sound instrument or interactive textile sculpture. Designed for participants with little or no experience, with time to build skills through lectures, guided exercises, and studio work.

  • Develop skills in sewing, embedded systems, electronics, and sound design
  • Work with Bela, conductive materials, and sensors
  • Combine textile construction with physical computing
  • Design, build, and share a wearable sound instrument or interactive textile sculpture
  • Workshop materials provided
  • Receive a certificate of completion

TIER 03PERFORM

Performance Lab

TAILORED DURATION

Length shaped by your project scope and group size.

A collaborative lab exploring wearable sound in performance. The programme is developed around your group and project, with room for deeper experimentation, making, and rehearsal.

  • Investigate movement and musical interaction
  • Develop or refine a wearable instrument or interactive textile sculpture
  • Shape a final performance or exhibition showcase
  • Workshop materials provided
  • Receive a certificate of completion

Who can take part?

Foundations and Wearable Instruments welcome participants with little or no prior experience. There are no formal prerequisites, and no experience in sewing, pattern making, embedded systems, electronics, or sound design is required. Participants should have basic familiarity with computers and an interest in music and sewing.

Performance Lab is tailored to the experience and interests of each group. Materials are provided for all three tiers; equipment arrangements and any hardware to keep are confirmed with the host.
